This Flu Season is hitting Southern States harder than the rest of the country-and that includes Texas.
Dr.Robert Atmar, Infectious Diseases expert at Baylor College of Medicine says it's hitting us harder than the rest of the country and the latest CDC map shows states from Texas to Georgia are getting hit especially hard.He says this year's flu shot is -so far- working better than last year's. “The vast majority of the flu strains that are characterized so far are the same strains that are contained in the vaccine.“
“There’s plenty of vaccine and it’s recommended for every person 6 months of age and older. Unfortunately, it’s not 100% effective to keep the flu away – but we think it does decrease the severity of the flu you may get. He says with all the family gatherings and travel that come with the season - your flu shot is especially important. Already 4 flu-associated deaths among children have been reported.
