Moody Garden’s Baby Penguins

Just in time for Thanksgiving, Moody Gardens is busy welcoming eight Macaroni penguin chicks who just hatched at the Galveston park.

Six are from eggs recently transported from SeaWorld in San Diego and two are native Macaroni chicks.

The eggs were expected to hatch yesterday but arrived a little earlier -- over the weekend.

Marconi penguins grow to almost 28 inches in height and weigh around 12 pounds. They’re found in the sub-Arctic and Antarctic Peninsula and live off krill, fish, crustaceans and squid.

They’re black with a white belly, a blackface and an orange crest that flows back from the center of their forehead.
