Turkey is Great --- But Can be Lethal

Thanksgiving turkey is affordable, delicious and easy to prepare. HOWEVER, it could be lethal. Salmonella poisoning from your Thanksgiving turkey can send your family to the hospital!

Dr. Erin Donaldson says she saw many cases of salmonella poisoning in the hospital and it's not something you want to experience. Besides, you can avoid it by making sure you:

  1. clean your kitchen counters with a mild bleach solution and cook your bird to 165 degrees.
  2. don't rinse your turkey because you could be spreading all kinds of bacteria all over the place.
  3. wash your hands. in warm soapy water for 20 seconds --- about the time it takes to sing the Alphabet Song or one verse and chorus of Ole MacDonald Had a Farm
  4. thaw your turkey on the bottom shelf of your refrigerator to avoid dripping juices on other food.

Be safe, be gracious to your guests even when they're on your last nerve, and be thankful.
