More than 4,500 people are expected to attend "Mattress Mack's" free Thanksgiving Day feast from 11 am to 2 pm today at the Gallery Furniture store on the North Freeway.
Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale said it's all about coming together and giving thanks for all the blessings.
"I think most of all people want companionship, they want fellowship, they want unity and community, so it's a wonderful mood and everybody gets along," said McIngvale. "They love the ability to come on Thanksgiving Day and break bread with each other and meet new friends and look forward to the possibility of a better tomorrow. That's what the United States is all about."
He said the only requirement is to come hungry.
They'll be serving turkey, ham and sides like macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, candied yams, and mashed potatoes and gravy. Various food trucks will also be onsite.
If you want to volunteer, opportunities are still available for 30 minutes or stay the entire day. Volunteers can pitch in for set up an hour before the event. They also need volunteers to tear down and clean up until four pm.
