SpaceX Starship Malfunctions

There was trouble on the launch pad as the new SpaceX Starship rocket has suffered a sizable setback.

The Starship Mark 1 was being tested at the SpaceX test site near Brownsville on Wednesday when the prototype exploded, sending plumes of white smoke into the air.

The explosion blew off part of the rocket, though the rest of it remained standing.

SpaceX said the purpose of the test was to "pressurize systems to the max," so the outcome was not completely unexpected.

Space X plans to use the Starship Mark 1 to transport passengers and cargo to the moon, and ultimately, to Mars.
