Governor Abbott Lightens Licensing Requirements

Five Police Officers Killed During Anti-Police Brutality March In Dallas

The deadline is approaching for state agencies ordered by Gov. Greg Abbott to review and revise their licensing requirements.

The GOP governor directed the heads of state agencies, in an October 8th letter, to reduce licensing regulations, lower educational requirements and fees for certain professions, and remove licensing barriers for people with criminal records, "where appropriate."

Abbott said the goal is to give Texans an "opportunity to earn a living free from unnecessary state intrusion."

Agencies have until December 1st to report to Abbott the steps they plan to take.
