On a horrible day in May, 2018, an armed teenage boy entered Santa Fe High School shooting. His mission ended with 23 people being shot. 13 were injured. 10 were dead. The trial for the teen was moved from Galveston County to Fort Bend County and was supposed to take place in February of 2020. Now a Galveston County judge formally declared the teen incompetent to stand trial. The boy's defense attorneys were declaring the boy's mental capacities had diminished to the point where he could not understand the trial before him. The judge's ruling stated that he will be treated at a state mental health facility for a stay not to last more than 120 days. The goal is to restore his competency in able to stand trial.
