Those constantly escalating tuition fees you pay for your child’s college education are being used for a lot of things that have nothing to do with what they learn.
Hank Green, of vlogbrothers fame, follows the escalating costs associated with higher education and says operational costs for public universities are up 30%.
“A nebulous thing that has increased more than any other category among four year bachelor’s degree programs is students services, which includes everything from concerts, to intramural sports, to marketing, to tutors,” he says.
Those are the people responsible for bringing in new revenue and spending. Most schools have 10 non-academic employee per student. Some have a 3 to 1 ration.
What colleges spend per student has decreased in the past 30 years while what students pay for college has increased 213%.
