Subtropical Storm Melissa forms with no threat to Texas

Subtropical Storm Melissa is the thirteenth named storm of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season and is currently located off the east coast of the United States. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Melissa is expected to turn north-northeast as the storm weakens by this evening. Melissa poses no threat to Texas.

While Melissa is not a threat to Texas, resources are available for those recovering from Tropical Storm Imelda.

Federal Resources

  • To apply for federal assistance through FEMA or to access information about other federal resources for Imelda recovery, visit www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362 (TTY 1-800-462-7585).
  • The deadline to apply is December 3, 2019.

Disaster Unemployment

  • Individuals who lost their jobs or self-employed individuals who have been unable to work due to damage sustained from Tropical Storm Imelda may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance benefits.
  • Apply for disaster unemployment assistance through the Texas Workforce Commission online at https://twc.texas.gov/jobseekers/disaster-unemployment-assistance or through the TWC TeleCenter at 800-939-6631 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • The last day to apply is November 7, 2019.
