“Witch hunt” against Ft. Bend Co. Sheriff Troy Nehls

The Fort Bend County Commissioners Court met in executive session yesterday regarding the removal of Republican Sheriff Troy Nehls from office under the "Resign to Run" provision--which state legislators approved years ago.

This summer, Nehls said he formed an exploratory committee to possibly run for Congress, but never said he would resign as sheriff.

"Should I decide to run for Congress, that decision would not be made until the first week of December," said Nehls.

Nehls tweeted it was a 'witch-hunt' accusing Democrat County Judge KP George has met with other Democrats to choose who he would appoint to replace Nehls.

"And, I think that's irresponsible because it's not up to him. It would be up to the commissioner's court," said Nehls.

After the closed session yesterday, George said the item was only informational and no action was taken.

Nehls added he wished the Democrats would play by the rules and not try to create their own.

KTRH reached out to Judge George via e-mail and phone, but have yet to hear back.
