On Saturday, October 12, the Grand 1894 Opera House on Galveston Island will present “Give ‘Em Hell, Harry!” starring Clifton Truman Daniel, the grandson of former president Harry S. Truman.
During a 1948 reelection campaign whistle stop a supporter yelled out to the president, “Give ‘em hell, Harry.” It became an identifying slogan through Truman's second term in the White House and the title of a biographical Broadway play and 1975 film starring James Whitmore. Clifton Daniel will reprise the role in a one-night only performance in the intimate setting of The Grand. It's your rare opportunity to not only learn about American history but to experience it.
Listen to the podcast. The Grand’s Executive Director Maureen Patton talks about Truman's unexpected role as one of the most influential leaders of the 20th Century and the venue’s unique history of presenting one-man plays. Clifton Daniel explains how he came to find himself an actor on stage playing his grandfather.
