Remembering slain HCSO deputy

A prayer service for slain Harris County Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal will be held from 10 am to 1 pm today at 14807 Willancy Court, near the site where Dhaliwal was shot Friday.

A candlelight vigil will be held Monday from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth Park on Horsepen Creek at 9118 Wheat Cross Drive, Houston, TX 77095.

A funeral service will be Wednesday at the Berry Center in Cypress. Sikh (seek) religious ceremony at 10:30 a.m., law enforcement ceremony at 11:30. Public welcome at both, space permitting.

The suspect in the deputy's murder missed his first court date because he's in the hospital. A judge has denied his bond. His next court date is tomorrow.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said August 28th marked the four year anniversary of the shooting death of Deputy Darren Goforth. Deputies Sandeep Dhaliwal and Goforth were close friends. Dhaliwal was the first deputy on the scene that night.

On Friday, Dhaliwal was gunned down, about one mile away from the Goforth scene in an ambush during a traffic stop. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says the 41-year-old deputy was rushed by helicopter to a hospital but died. Dhaliwal was a father of three children. He was a 10-year veteran of the sheriff's office.
