Gluten Free is an Expensive Trend

Gluten free products cost twice as much as wheat-based products, and are often more processed. They may not be necessary. Baylor College of Medicine Registered Nutritionist Kristi King says, "There is a big trend to go Gluten Free--- even if you don’t have Celiac Disease. And that’s not something that is necessarily recommended." .A recent study published in the Journal Gastroenterology agrees. King also says to beware of so-called lab tests that claim you're gluten intolerant. "The only lab test that can prove that gluten has ANY affect on the body is the test for Celiac Disease. So just because you’re eating gluten free food doesn’t mean that you’re healthier."

The Celiac Disease Organization says the disease is actually uncommon.
