Today is National Voter Registration Day, and of course, Texans are getting ready to vote on November 5th. But this is the day that the Voter Registration drive gets kicked up a notch, with many groups participation.
One of those groups is the League of Women Voters of Texas. Their President, Grace Chimene says 35 Texas Leagues will be out today, assisting voters who want to register or update their registration by the deadline of October 7th. Chimene says that while turnout for the November 5th election is not expected to be high, everyone is looking at 2020 for the big jump in numbers.
"People will get to make big decisions. November 2020 is going to be huge," Chimene stated.
Outside of 2018, Texas' turnout numbers have not been very high. Chimene says there's a reason for that.
"People think the decision was already made. That was the case; many times the decision of the voters in the primaries decided who won the general election," Chimene explained.
