There's a ranch near Fort Worth that is missing almost 500 head of cattle and the rancher didn't know if for 9 months! A Clay County rancher discovered 489 steers went missing somewhere between November 2018 and August 2019.
In his defense, the rancher does maintain a very large herd, so he only realized they were missing when he was shipping the rest of the cattle. Special Ranger John Bradshaw of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association says each weighs about 400 to 500 pounds and they are mixed breed Charolais and Black Angus. Each is branded on his left hip.
Anyone with information that could help identify the perpetrator or perpetrators is asked to call TSCRA's Operation Cow Thief hotline at 888-830-2333, or Bradshaw at 940-389-6123.
