There was a fire at the Celanese chemical plant in Clear Lake on Saturday (9-21-19). First an explosion and then a fire occurred around noon. From the company's Bayport Road facility black smoke could be seen for quite a distance. All of the company personnel who were at the plant at that time were accounted for and no shelter-in-place orders were made. No injuries were reported.
An investigation is underway to discover the source of the fire.
