Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick says he is open to expanding some gun background checks. Patrick tells the Dallas Morning News he supports extending background checks to stranger-to-stranger gun transfers, calling it common sense. He adds that he does not want family members or friends subject to background checks. Patrick says he's a solid NRA guy, but thinks Texans should not be able to sell guns to strangers without a look into the buyer's criminal history. The NRA is wary of any new background check legislation, warning it would grant government too much power.
