Job searching? Check out your posts!

The Internet has changed the way you look for a new job. There are lots of online job listings, resume help sites, etc. But then there’s the dark side: Social Media! Cara Woolet of Jill Hickman Companies makes a point. “Twenty 20 or so years ago, young folks were out making bad decisions and no on in the world knew about it.NOW people make bad decisions and the whole world knows about it!” So according to Woolet, many job hunters are deleting not-so-professional Facebook posts (see accompanying photo) from the past. This goes for Twitter and even LinkedIn as well. “I think it’s the best decision that future employees can make for themselves.”

When job hunting, remember social media can be seen by anyone - including the people you want to work for. “They want to see what your interests are, and see how you will fit into the culture of their organization. Job Seekers need to do everything they can to make themselves look as professional as possible.” She adds, “Be careful what you post.”
