Along with a ton of other new laws, the new law that takes effect today makes exceptions for those on active military duty.
Dr. Ernest Hawk at MD Anderson says we don't know enough yet about the effects of vaping.
"The greatest concern around flavorings is that most of them are intended for ingestion or eating; and they may be proven safe for eating them but what happens when they're inhaled directly into the lungs."
Dr. Hawk says many of the vaping flavors appear to target kids.
"Many of the flavorings that are used are probably designed to appeal to youthful audiences; things like bubble gum and cotton candy -- you don't see many adults choosing those sorts of flavorings."
Supporters say the measure say it will improve public health, adding tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable deaths in the U.S. Critics say the measure restricts the rights of legal adults.
