The National Hurricane Center has upgraded a disturbance in the Atlantic Ocean to Tropical Storm Dorian.
On Sunday TS Dorian is roughly 700 miles east southeast of Barbados with sustained winds of 40 miles an hour traveling westward at 12 mph.
It is expected to move further to the west-northwest Sunday as it intensifies.
The National Hurricane Center predicts TS Dorian will strengthen to a category 1 hurricane by Wednesday and will threaten the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola. Some of the models suggest the system could dissipate as it reaches the Caribbean.
The hurricane season peaks in mid-September and concludes at the end of November.
