Flying First Class Ain't What it Used to Be

Over the last years flying First Class domestically hasn’t been the great experience it once was - although the seats are still a little bit bigger than those in coach and you'll probably be offered some kind of food. Travelers complain that the seats in First Class are smaller than they were, the food is worse (if you get any at all) and the bathrooms barely give you room to turn around. AAA Houston spokesperson Joshua Zuber says it's all about cutting costs and smaller aircraft.“Legacy airlines found themselves competing with economy low cost carriers.”

And if First Class is the best they can offer - coach is worse! Zuber says we just adapt. “A lot of travelers are more interested in just getting from point A to point B.” Smaller planes with fewer frills plus fees for food, carry-ons, better seating and luggage are how the airlines are saving costs. He does have one suggestion if you want to be pampered in First Class:“If you want to have ‘that experience’ again --- travel internationally. Many countries’ airlines still know how to do it up right.”

Until you jet off to Paris, just suffice by packing tightly, bringing your own lunch on board, dressing comfortably and keep your elbows tucked in.You’ll get to your destination eventually.
