Two people were hurt with only minor injuries during a scare and an evacuation at Memorial City Mall this afternoon. Mall goers, many of whom were taking advantage of the Texas School Supply Tax Holiday and buying back to school items, heard first that there was an active shooter and that's why they were being evacuated. Others heard someone was setting off fireworks in one of the stores. Finally --- Police investigators say a male wearing a mask jumped on a table in the food court, threatened to kill himself and dropped an object, which led to the panic of there being a shooter in the mall.
Houston police determined there was not a shooting. The object he dropped wasn't dangerous, according to officials. Many will have a good story for the first day of school!
