Local Blood Centers are Looking for Young Blood!

Kellye Moran of the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center says, “Our largest donor base is over the age of 40. And they are often very likely to be ‘deferred’ because of medication and health requirements.” “The need for blood is constant. We have to collect over 800 donations a day to meet the needs in our community.” Moran says they are concentrating on recruiting younger people to become Donors for Life. “We’re engaging with a younger donor base by using social media. What are they doing? They are scrolling, scrolling, scrolling. We’ve done different promotions that are geared to that younger demographic.” New promotions are created for Millenials and Gen Z.This month you get a beach towel for your donation. They even have a high school program.

And remember - every donation can save three lives.
