Santa Fe High Shooter Possibly Seeking Insanity Defense

The Santa Fe High School shooter is possibly seeking an insanity defense against capital murder charges according to court document filed earlier this month.

The teenager is accused of killing eight of his classmates and two teachers in last year's massacre, and injuring over a dozen others.

The court order allows prosecutors to evaluate the admitted shooter with their own experts.

The order states,“as the defendant has indicated that he intends to raise the insanity defense in this capital murder trial, and as law mandates that the state do more than just rely on cross examination of the defense experts on the issue of insanity, the state is therefore entitled to have its own experts interview, test, and examine the defendant.”
