ORIGINAL: The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office is looking for a hit-and-run driver, after an eight-year old girl was critically injured near Hodges Bend Middle School.

Investigators say the child was in the crosswalk with two siblings around 7:45 last night when the driver swerved around another vehicle and ran a stop sign. The driver reportedly stopped about a block away, but then drove off.

The child was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

Officials said they are searching the area for an "older dark gray Nissan Altima with damage to its windshield." The sheriff's office also posted surveillance pictures of the car.
