Life in the Wetlands at the Houston Zoo

Just in time for the Memorial Day Weekend, the Houston Zoo's new wetlands exhibit is now open.

The swampy habitat's official name is the Kathrine G. McGovern Texas Wetlands, and it's located on the site of the former duck pond in the middle of the zoo.

The Houston Zoo says visitors will be able to get close-up views of whooping cranes, bald eagles, and American alligators, which Texans have helped to save from extinction.

The wetlands exhibit also serves as a flood mitigation project.
