HFD Cadets Finally Employed

More than five-dozen new faces are joining the Houston Fire Department.

66 cadets were sworn in Thursday, with the impasse over Proposition-B in limbo. The cadets had finished their training, but were the first to receive layoff notices during the impasse between the mayor and the firefighter's union.

On Wednesday, a Harris County District Judge ruled the voter-approved pay parity measure unconstitutional. The union is appealing the decision.

Some of the trainees will start as early as tomorrow.
