The search for a missing 4-year-old Maleah Davis was suspended after a day of coming up empty in Rosharon.
Texas EquuSearch founder Tim Miller said the terrain and recent rain in the area was difficult for crews. The search was canceled around 9 p.m.
“We have a lot of things against us and are doing the best we can possibly do,” Miller stated.
Miller said something that Maleah's stepfather, Derion Vence, said in the past led them to search in Brazoria County.
“He actually said to his mother-in-law a year ago, he said, 'Man, if I ever killed anybody, I got some places down in Rosharon where they would never find the body,'” Miller said.
Vence is charged with tampering with evidence in connection with the case.
In the meantime more than 100 people gathered at Oyster Creek Park last night for a vigil to honor the missing 4-year-old.
The park is the same place where volunteers handed out flyers, hoping to find the little girl.
Some of those that came to the vigil showed up with pink and white balloons to release. Some wore blue for child abuse awareness.
