The Bayport Channel Collision Response Unified Command is holding a press conference at 3 this afternoon to update the public on the cleanup effort underway in the Houston Ship Channel.

Friday a tanker and tug collided and barges that were transporting a gasoline blend stock product were damaged, one almost splitting in half and the other capsizing, releasing the chemicals into the waterway.
The Response office is urging residents and others near the water to avoid direct contact with the product in the water due to a potential risk of skin and eye irritations.
