Measles are back in the U.S. Dr. Peter Hotez, Dean for the National School for Tropical Medicine at Baylor School of Medicine, says the U.S. shows more cases every day. “We’ve had almost 800 cases of measles – an all time high – since eliminating the disease in the year 2000.” There's currently only 15 cases in Texas, 4 in Harris County - but that number will probably grow. We now have 64000 kids in the state of Texas not getting their vaccines.”
Katy has the highest incidence here. And Austin, Plano, Denton and Ft. Worth are also at risk. “I'm particularly concerned about measles coming back to Texas. We have been lucky so far with only 15 cases to date. “ Dr. Hotez thinks this is serious, "We’ve created conditions in the state where I think a large measles epidemic is practically inevitable. Now we’re in a dangerous situation where thousands of kids are being deprived of vaccinations because of the anti-vaccination media empires. “
