Florida follows the Texas example on sanctuary cities

Other states are following the example Texas set when it passed a sanctuary cities law in 2017.

For instance, Florida is closer to having their own Sanctuary Cities Law. Texas State Senator Charles Perry, who was behind the Texas law, told KTRH considering the state of things at the border this took too long.

“Since we passed ours, more problems have come across the border than we realize. I’m glad they are moving towards that. It’s just common sense,” Perry said.

Despite the legal challenges to the Texas law, Perry says it's worked.

“Local officials got the message loud and clear. They started detaining people that needed to be detained,” Perry explained.

And even though Mayor Sylvester Turner won't call Houston a sanctuary city, the city did join a suit against the law when it passed in 2017.
