Republicans have been signing off on something that isn’t very Republican. They are raising taxes, specifically the gas tax.
Raising the gas tax has happened now in seven states since President Trump took over the White House. Political scientist Bob Stein at Rice explained why Republicans are doing something that's very un-Republican.
“We haven’t raised the federal gas tax in thirty years,” Stein said.
And Stein says this might have repercussions down the road, especially in 2020.
But he says it won’t show up in the general election, where Republican's likely wouldn’t vote for a Democrat that would do the exact thing they were voting against by raising the gas tax.
