The United States Congress, for lack of a better word, has been functionally useless for about two decades now. Legislation and putting the priorities of Americans first has been replaced by nonsensical political theater, and an overwhelming about of ego, on both sides of the aisle. In short, along the way somewhere, our election officials forgot who their actual bosses are; it is not lobbyists, donors, or special interests. It is us, the American people.

This complete dysfunction has been never more evident than the last two years. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has been as useful as a chocolate teapot, sitting on hundreds of bills that would further advance President Trump's agenda. He claimed they did not have time to pass the SAVE Act but assured everyone they had a "spirited debate." People do not want symbolic gestures. They want the mandate they gave in 2024 to be put into action.

Instead, what we got was Senate dog shows, and long vacations after accomplishing nothing. Now, the GOP is staring down a dramatic shift in power for the Democrats and are left with 60 days to do their jobs. Texas Congressman Chip Roy is rallying his colleagues, saying on Fox this week that they need to codify Trump's executive orders before that power transition.

Aaron Evans of Winning Republican Strategies says now they have one last chance to do the job they should have been doing already.

"Lock these things in, the things the American people voted for in a mandate, that this Congress has failed to do," he says.

All of Trump's executive orders can be undone by the next President, unless Congress codifies them. All the orders that secured our border, the tariffs, all of it could go away on a whim. The people demanded these things. Congress has decided they would rather go on multiple recesses.

If anything was made clear on Tuesday night, it is that the American people are upset. They are mad that they have been told things are happening but still struggle to afford things. That is not on President Trump. His work can go only so far as Congress will go. If they decided to take a vacation, and not pass critical legislation, all efforts to fix our problems stall with it.

"They need to do right by the American people and do what they failed to do...not because it is politically advantageous, because they are going home, they have been fired...but because it is the right thing to do for America," says Evans.

While the American people decided to send a message on Tuesday night, it was not the message people perceive it to be on the outside. Americans everywhere still voted in propositions that directly conflict with the Democrat ideology.

The election this year was Americans forcing the Republicans to do some soul searching.

"This was not a result because people fell in love with Democrats overnight," Evans says. "This was an election result because they are sick and tired of Republicans lying every election, then not doing anything once they are in office."

For once GOP member in Congress and the Senate, if you are listening, do your job. Do your job. Stop the infighting, the politicking, and the nonsensical revenge ploys. No one cares about how your old friends in the chamber might feel, no one cares about your concern, no one cares about your desires. Accomplish our desires. Do your job that you are paid and expected to do. We are your boss.

Codify what the American people want and go out with at least some shred of respect and decency. You have 60 days. Do the right thing.
