Legislature Considers Broadening Campus Free Speech

(Austin, TX) -- The state legislature is considering measures to create uniform guidelines for free speech at public colleges and universities. Similar Senate and House bills would allow anybody, even someone unaffiliated with a school, to engage in free speech in outdoor common areas, subject to certain restrictions, but free from interference by students or faculty.

The proposed policy is similar to campus practices at Texas A&M, UH, and TSU, but broader than those at UT Austin. The bills are meant to stop the stifling of conservative speech on Texas campuses.
