Coogs Maul Panthers in NCAA Tourney

The Houston Cougars made a strong showing in their first round game of the NCAA Tournament, beating the Georgia State Panthers 84-55 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The Coogs, who own the number-three seed in the Midwest Regional, jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Corey Davis led the way with 26-points.

UH will face 11th-seeded Ohio State in round two Sunday. The Buckeyes upset number-6 Iowa State 62-59.

In other action, Texas Tech coasted to a 72-57 win over Northern Kentucky Friday. The Red Raiders hold the three-seed in the West Regional. They will meet sixth-seeded Buffalo tomorrow afternoon.

Ninth-seeded Baylor, which won its first round game Thursday, meets number-one Gonzaga in the West Regional tonight. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:10pm.
