Fireworks in Texas Legislature

The Texas skies could be filled with fireworks if one state lawmaker has his way.

Fort Worth-area Republican Jonathon Strickland is co-sponsoring bill that would expand fireworks sales to San Jacinto Day, Juneteenth, Labor Day, Texas Independence Day, Dawali, and Cinco de Mayo.

"We actually had a bill that allowed cities to make this decision themselves that passed before; the problem is that none of them have decided to take advantage."

Fireworks sales are currently allowed in the ten days before the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve. Sales are also permitted for other events on a local basis.

The committee plans to vote on the bills Tuesday with a final vote possible by next month.
