Deer Park Dike Wall Collapse: Shelter in Place Ordered

A shelter-in-place has been ordered for industrial facilities near the Deer Park chemical storage facility that caught fire Sunday and near and the San Jacinto historic site.

According to a tweet by the Deer Park Office of Emergency Management, a dike wall that surrounds the 15-tank farm at the Intercontinental Terminals Co. at the corner of Independence Parkway and Tidal Road “partially collapsed.”

The wall was containing the chemical products that were released during the fire that burned for nearly four days.

Officials say the shelter-in-place order is not for residents in the city of Deer Park, which is located south of the site.
