Districts are worried that wind and weather may impact air quality in the Pasadena area to an unhealthy level, so surrounding neighborhood school districts are exercising caution by canceling classes and after-school activities.
Even though officials say the smoke from the Deer Park tank fire isn't toxic, several local independent school districts aren't taking chances. The school districts of Deer Park, Channelview, Pasadena, Galena Park, La Porte, and Sheldon have canceled classes and after-school activities for today. In addition, La Porte ISD's offices are closed. Deer Park ISD says out-of-district games are still on as scheduled.
