Colorful fireplace flames with pine cones

To enjoy colorful flames in your fireplace, soak pine cones for 10 minutes in one of the appropriate chemical solutions here. Use one pound of chemical to a gallon of water. After soaking, hang them to dry. Toss a few into the flames for a flashy fire.

Use only in an enclosed fireplace. Remember to use extreme caution when dealing with fire and chemicals.

The chemicals and associated hues are:

  • Orange - calcium chloride
  • Blue - cupric chloride
  • Green - copper sulfate
  • Red - lithium chloride

To get a rainbow color scheme, use four pounds of copper sulfate and three pounds of rock salt for every gallon of water.
