(Houston, TX) -- Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner is urging Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar Ann Harris Bennett to not cooperate with the state over some voter registrations. The mayor sent a letter to Bennett today saying Texas is threatening to disenfranchise voters who have followed all voter registration laws.
The state is looking to see if the registered voters are naturalized citizens after a report from the Texas Secretary of State suggested thousands of non-citizens are voting in elections. Texas has already modified the report saying some of the names were mistakenly listed.
