(Garland, TX) -- A four-year-old Garland girl is this year's first pediatric flu-related death in Dallas County. Ashanti Grinage started showing symptoms on Sunday of last week. After her parents took her to an emergency room with a 103-degree fever, tests determined she had Flu type A. She had not received a flu shot.
After the fever let up, doctors sent her home. But, she grew worse until her mother took her back to the ER on Thursday. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and died that same day. Her mother is now in the hospital with flu-like symptoms.
