Tonight, the man who shot and killed an Houston police officer is scheduled to be executed Wednesday January 30th, in Huntsville.
It's the nation's first execution of 2019.
Robert Jennings, 61, was sentenced to death by execution after murdering Houston Vice Officer Elston Howard at an adult bookstore in 1988.
Officer Howard was placing a store clerk in custody for operating a pornographic video arcade sans permit. That's where Jennings shot the officer twice in the head. Jennings intent at the time was to rob the shop.
Several uniformed officers are expected to attend tonight's execution at 6 p.m..
