(Williamson Co., TN) -- The chair of the Williamson County Republican Party is defending a newsletter with a meme featuring U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The image shows a woman interviewing the Democratic Rep. from New York, asking Ocasio-Cortez her thoughts about the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision affirming a woman's right to have an abortion Roe v. Wade. In the meme, Ocasio-Cortez says "That's the only two ways Mexicans can cross the river."
Critics have called the letter racist. Party chair Debbie Deaver sent an email to The Tennessean on Tuesday saying the Republican Party of Williamson County won't let others tell members what they can or can't say.
