(Houston, TX) -- Thousands are expected to brave bone-chilling temperatures in Philadelphia today for the largest Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service event in the country.
Despite Mayor Sylvester Turner's intentions, Houston will still have dueling MLK Day parades today.
First up is the MLK Parade downtown, which has the backing of the city and is presented by the Black Heritage Society.
The Astros' George Springer and Representative John Lewis are serving as grand marshals. Later, the MLK Grande Parade will take place in the Midtown area. Turner and other Houston mayors have attended the competing parade in previous years, but not this time.
