Texas State Preservation Board Votes To Remove Confederate Plaque

(Austin, TX)  --  A "Children of the Confederacy Creed" plaque is going to come down at the Texas State Capitol.  The preservation board voted in favor of removing the plaque today after politicians from both sides of the aisle lobbied for its removal.

The plaque has been up since 1959 and claims the Civil War wasn't a rebellion or was about slavery.  Dallas Representative Eric Johnson, who started the push to get rid of the plaque, says he's glad it's going to be gone but thinks it never should have been in the Capitol to begin with.  He blames both Republicans and Democrats for keeping it up.
