There are more "don'ts" than "dos" in Car shopping

KTRH Car Pro Jerry Reynolds is one of the best car dealers of all time. He says honesty is the best policy.

"If you don't want a dealership playing games with you, then don't play games with them; and you can have a really pleasant buying experience with all the information that's out there on the Internet today."

But Reynolds says don't negotiate the monthly payment, negotiate the price of the car.

"Don't get caught up in the monthly payment game, because it's easy to be taken advantage of."

Reynolds says salesmen can sneak a lot of money past you if you're focused only on the monthly payment.

Finally, Reynolds says to make sure it's a car you love; don't make a deal just to save money on a car you don't really want.

"I see people all the time working a deal on a car they don't really love; they'll take it, but I think when you're spending that kind of money you should really love your car, make sure it's the right car for you."

The best time to buy a new car is the week after Christmas because that's when automakers offer the highest incentives. Incentives are usually not quite as high in January, but Reynolds says you can still find a good deal right now.
