UPHILL BATTLE: State Rep Advocates For Cannabis Decriminalization

(Austin, TX)  --  A state representative from El Paso favors limited decriminalization of cannabis.  In the current state legislative session that got underway this week. 

Democrat Joe Moody is sponsoring a bill that would allow for the consumption of small amounts of marijuana.  Moody's House Bill 63 clarifies he believes it is time to stop burdening people with a civil sanction, criminal record, arrest or jail time for having less than an ounce of pot.  

Yesterday, KVIA reported that DEA Special Agent Kyle Williamson disagrees, claiming the drug is addictive, has no medical benefits and everywhere it is being allowed there is an uptick in property crimes and violence.
