Say goodbye to yet another part of Houston culture. Fitzgerald’s in the Heights hosted its last performance on New Year’s Eve. It wasn’t that old…the music house opened in 1977 and over the years showcased the likes of ZZTop, Stevie Ray Vaughn, James Brown.
I saw a lot of those shows, back in the 80’s and 90’s and then got … old? …. Maybe preoccupied with work or the ease of internet entertainment.
But Fitzgerald’s demise brings on a wave of nostalgia….for all of us who remember other favorite haunts…Armadillo World HQ in Austin, Rockefeller’s also in the Heights, Gilley’s in Pasadena, Swiss Alp dance hall outside Schulenburg, Vic’s Dominoes in Hallettsville. To long gone icons…Adieu.
