Texas is unfortunately one of the top states for police officers dying in the line of duty this year.
There have been 11 officer deaths in the state in 2018, the same number as in Florida, California and New York.
A preliminary report from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund says 144 officers died in the line of duty this year, up from 129 in 2017. Most of the officers who died in 2018 were either shot or fatally injured in car crashes.
