House Fire Leaves One Dead in SW Houston

The body of a 68-year old man is found by first responders battling a house fire in southwest Houston.

Investigators say it appears the fire started in the kitchen of a home on Millbanks Dr. near the Sam Houston Tollway and West Bellfort.

The unidentified victim reportedly died of smoke inhalation while trying to extinguish the flames.

Neighbor Queidra Chaney lives across the street and tells our TV partner KPRC Channel-2 she called 911,  “The neighbors were working hard to try to help. They were jumping gates, They were trying their best, but we never heard him respond… Just a beautiful man and helped all the neighbors. He was helping them get nice jobs. Just very helpful and very nice man. My heart is hurting. It's Christmas time too.”
